Costa Europa
ex Homeric, ex Westerdam, later Thomson Dream, later Marella Dream, scrapped 2022
Built in 1986 at Meyer Werft as Homeric for the erstwhile Homes Line, Costa Europa was at the time the largest ship to be launched sideways. Homeric's sucess resulted in Meyer Werft becoming a major passenger ship building yard. The problems encountered with the weather during her construction prompted the building of Meyer's first covered dry dock, a bridge was rebuilt following her collision with that bridge during the transfer from the shipyard to the sea. On the take over of Homes Lines by Holland America Line she was renamed Westerdam and returned to the Meyer Werft to be steched by 40 m (nearly 20 % of her overall length) at the end of 1989. In 2002 the vessel was transfered to Costa Cruises and renamed Costa Europa. From 2010 - 2021 the ship was part of the TUI Cruises fleet, first as Thomson Dream, later as Marella Dream before being scrapped as Ella in 2022.
