Costa Riviera

Costa Riviera was built as Guglielmo Marconi at the Cantieri Riuniti dell'Adriatico, Monfalcone (now Fincantieri) for the Europe-Australia service of Lloyd Triestino.
Like her sister Galileo Galilei which joined Chandris and later became the first ship of Celebrity Cruises Guglielmo Marconi underwent an extensive refit to become the cruise ship Costa Riviera of Costa Cruises.

Whereas Costa Riviera has been scrapped, Galileo Galilei - the later Sun Vista - sank in the Strait of Malacca following a fire. You can find more information on this incident on this page at Maritime Matters.
For a photo of Costa Riviera (as Liberty) at the beach in Alang go to www.midshipcentury.com (scroll down).
Photos of Costa Riviera and a short summary of her history are found at Simplon postcards. Plans of her as Costa Riviera as well as Guglielmo Marconi are available at Associazione Navimodellisti Bolognesi.
