Galaxy
later Celebrity Galaxy, later Mein Schiff, later Mein Schiff 1, now Marella Explorer
Galaxy has been renamed Marella Explorer of Marella Cruises (TUI UK). As 'Mein Schiff' (later 'Mein Schiff 1') Galaxy became the the first ship sailing for the TUI Cruises brand.
Following the similar and slightly smaller Century, Galaxy is the second in a series of three ships originally built for Celebrity Cruises by Meyer Werft.
With an exterior designed by Jon Bannenberg (see also here) and interiors designed by Agni and Michael Katzourakis (AMK Architects & Designers), Birch Coffey Design and John McNeece, these ships not only got attention for the collection of art aboard, but also for the innovative interactive in-stateroom TV system and sophisticated artificial lighting.
A description of Galaxy's sister ship Mercury is found at www.ship-technology.com or in the GUIDE 98 magazine by ShipPax Informations. Some photos of Galaxy are found at Onno Heesbeen's webpage.
Like her sister Mercury, Galaxy had an outstanding high ceilinged observation lounge, which on its own was a reason to travel with this ship.
