Nordstjernen

Vestland Classic's Nordstjernen was originally built in 1956 by Blohm+Voss for the historic Det Bergenske Dampskibsselskab. Nordstjernen was specifically designed to serve the legendary Hurtigruten along the Norwegian coast. 1979 she changed to Troms Fylkes Dampskibsselskap that merged into the company named Hurtigruten in 2007. With an impressive career spanning from 1956 to 2012, Nordstjernen holds the distinction of being the longest-serving vessel on the Hurtigruten.
At the end of her 56 years of regular service along the coast of Norway, Nordstjernen was put under the protection of the Norwegian directorate of cultural heritage recognizing her as a vital part of the nation’s maritime legacy. Today, Nordstjernen is operated by Vestland Classic undertaking short cruises during the summer months.
For those interested in exploring her rich history, hurtigwiki.de (German), digitaltmuseum.no, the webpage of Vestland Classic on Nordstjernen are excellent pages to begin online research on this magnificent ship; it is maybe not a surprise that the Norwegian Wikipedia article is more detailed than the English Wikipedia article. A comprehensive photo collection of Nordstjernen can be found in Pam Massey’s ‚Ships ‘n More Ships‘ SmugMug galleries, Risawoleska, shipsatsea.de and at oceanliner-pictures.com:exterior views - aboard views .
