Paddle steamer Unterwalden, sister of paddle steamer Uri, was built in 1902 by Escher Wyss and has since plied the waters of Lake Lucerne with only a few years of interruption. Information and photos on Unterwalden can be found at paddlesteamers.info or on the German webpage of 'Dampferfreunde Vierwaldstättersee' where one also finds a detailed description of the more recent extensive refit of Unterwalden.
Unterwalden's rich history is full of interesting details - she has hosted personalities such as Winston Churchill her steam engine was displayed at the 1900 Paris World Fair before she was completed.
