Black Watch
ex Royal Viking Star, ex Westward, ex Star Odyssey, scrapped 2022
Black Watch started her life as Royal Viking Star - the first of the famous trio built at Wärtsilä shipyard in Helsinki (now Meyer Turku) for the erstwhile Royal Viking Line. Like her two sisters she was stretched at the Lloyd Werft in Bremerhaven by adding a section built at SSW Schichau Seebeck Shipyard. Recently all three ships underwent another extensive refit at Blohm + Voss where beside other modifications the complete propulsion system was replaced. After leaving Royal Viking Line the Royal Viking Star became the Westward of Norwegian Cruise Line and later Star Odyssey of the now defunct Royal Cruise Line. In 1996 she finally joined the fleet of Fred Olsen Cruise Lines as Black Watch where she is now serving together with her sister Boudicca, the former Royal Viking Sky. Film footage on Royal Viking Star's lauch is available at YouTube, a selection of photos of this vessel is available at Simplon postcards. The ship was beached and scrapped as Odin at Alang in 2022. A more complete selection of pictures is found on Pam Massey's webpage - go to the subpages on cruises aboard Black Watch in the years 2004 - 2002 and 2000. A review of Black Watch is available at www.cruisepage.com. The video material used for the clips found on this page was recorded during an Amazon river cruise aboard Black Watch in 2001.
